Alex Jonathan Brown

Alex Brown is an insurance lawyer and commercial litigator with a uniquely diverse background.  Alex is the head of the Insurance Law Practice Group at Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler.

Mr. Brown has represented insurance clients in both the private and public sector. Mr. Brown has extensive experience representing insurance policyholders, insurers, Risk Retention Groups and insurance professionals in complex insurance litigation and transactional insurance matters. As a former Senior Counsel to the Maryland Insurance Administration, Mr. Brown has also represented the Maryland Insurance Commissioner on a wide variety of regulatory and other State government and administrative law issues. Mr. Brown draws on this comprehensive, broad–based experience to offer his clients creative and effective solutions.

Mr. Brown has litigated in both Federal and State courts throughout the country, obtaining numerous successful results for insurer and policyholder clients in insurance coverage disputes. Mr. Brown also represents commercial entities in connection with government investigations and other administrative and regulatory matters. He is also routinely called upon to advise commercial clients on the insurance coverage they maintain for their businesses, as well as issues involving claims avoidance and minimization of claims.

Mr. Brown also has a wealth of experience in transactional matters. He has assisted insurers in the drafting of insurance policy language and has prepared numerous commercial documents for a wide variety of commercial entities. Mr. Brown has participated in the drafting of formational documents, purchase and sale contracts, leases, and other agreements for an early stage ethanol manufacturer and other commercial entities. Mr. Brown began his legal career practicing intellectual property law and thus has experience drafting technology transfer agreements, as well as copyright and trademark licenses and applications.
