Employment, Non Compete, and Contract Issue

Don is a fantastic lawyer, ethical, hardworking, and will provide a great service. I needed a lawyer for an employment issue that not only involved needing resolving but I was filed against eventually as well. Don worked on all issues in the case and kept me calm as this entire saga has been extrem...ely draining, emotional, and difficult, to say the least, especially for my family. Don, calmly handled the case assuring me the entire time that his laser focus and professional filings will be a strong strategy. Don does not play games, he follows the law and guides you along the way. He handled everything with the other lawyer, filings, and more while keeping me in the loop and explaining from his legal side. I interviewed quite a few lawyers as this case was/is very important for my family, and hired Don based on his strategy, demeanor, understanding, and ethical approach. I strongly recommend Don (and I worked closely with Alexus who is equally outstanding), and the rest of his firm. If you are looking for a smart, calm, ethical strategist for your employment needs then give Don a call for a consult. Great guy, and a great team.

Posted by anonymous | May 21, 2024 | Hired Attorney | Wrongful Termination

Severely mismanaged my case, attempted to perform a fee bait-and-switch, and ultimately abandoned their client.

In August 2023, Don Quinn's law group solicited me via LegalMatch about a wrongful termination case I had posted to the site. He charged me $500 upfront for the drafting and issue of a Legal Demand Letter to send to my former employer, with a verbal agreement to provide any ensuing negotiation repres...entation on a 35% contingency fee basis. Once I remitted payment, his group immediately became dramatically less responsive: impossible to reach via office phone, unresponsive to any of the messages sent via my client portal. A couple of weeks later, I received a draft of the LDL which had clearly been copied and pasted from a template, as it was riddled with typos, entire sections contained incorrect information, and I was even referred to by the incorrect pronouns. I revised the document myself and sent it back to mail out. They issued me a FedEx receipt with a tracking number which, upon my looking up, did not exist in FedEx's system. I began questioning the group's competence and legitimacy. Several weeks passed, and despite repeated attempts at contacting them I heard nothing. It was not until I left an unfavorable Google review on November 21 that I instantly received highly emotional, nasty calls and emails back from Don Quinn, threatening to revoke his representation unless I deleted my review. I attempted to make amends, but even so Don Quinn reassigned my case to one of his associate attorneys (Christopher Haake). I asked what the outcome of the LDL had been and whether negotiations with my employer would be proceeding. The group told me that they had heard nothing -- they couldn't even confirm whether the LDL was received by my former employer -- but that that was "normal" and "to be expected." More time passed. At some point, they changed their group's name from "Quinn Law Group" to "Quinn Patton Law." I sent a few more emails and received automated out-of-office responses. In the meantime, I had separately pursued the EEOC complaint process myself. Quinn's group did not offer to help with this, aside from an invitation to conduct the initial interview call at their office, which was located approximately 45 minutes away from me. Chris Haake did not speak up at all the call, only introduced himself and said goodbye. Thankfully, my complaint was soon approved by the EEOC and moved to charge status. Only then could I have any confidence that my former employer was even aware that I was pursuing legal action. I contacted the group to ask what their plan was now; whether they intended to leverage this development in negotiations with my former employer. They effectively shrugged and said "I guess we wait to see if they reach out." In December, I received a notice of early mediation from my EEOC portal for a date in April 2024. I again asked whether the group intended to leverage this development in any way. They said yes, but oh no - my former employer had "declined to speak with [them]," apparently throwing their hands in the air. Chris asked for the dollar amount I hoped to recover at mediation. I provided a figure, explicitly asked for his feedback and counsel on my expectations, and received no further response whatsoever. I heard absolutely nothing from the group from January through April 2024, until the VERY DAY before my mediation hearing, when Chris emailed me "hey, are you still interested in having us represent you?" and stated that the rate for his representation at the mediation would now be $350/hour. I reminded him that I agreed to a 35% contingency basis in August 2023 and that he had done absolutely no work on my case in the past four months, if ever. He counteroffered with a pure 40% contingency fee basis, then removed himself from the EEOC portal as my representation the VERY NIGHT before my hearing, having clearly failed his attempt at bait-and-switch (trying to make me agree to a higher last-minute rate out of desperation), effectively abandoning his client.
