John Byrley is the principal of the Firm. He received a Juris Doctor, with honors, in 1992, from the University of Florida College of Law, where he served as the Executive Research Editor on the Florida International Law Journal. From 1993 to 1994, he practiced business, estates and trusts, and real estate law in Gainesville, Florida. From 1994, John was based in Washington, DC, working on a variety of international development projects for Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, with the US-Ukraine Foundation, Chemonics International, and Democratic-Russia USA Foundation. More recently, John served with Freedom House, a prominent nongovernmental organization working globally for the rule-of-law, democratization and human rights. John is an active member of the Maryland Bar, and an inactive member of the Bars of Virginia and Florida. His practice is primarily limited to U.S. immigration and nationality law matters in all jurisdictions throughout the United States and abroad. John is an avid sailor and scuba-diver. He holds a first-degree black belts in Judo and in Aikido, and is a PADI-certified rescue diver.
