highly skilled divorce litigator

I selected Weinberg & Schwartz and Amos Whitney because they were highly recommended. Amos and Weinberg & Schwartz truly lived up the billing. My case was extraordinarily challenging. I entered as the male plaintiff against a successful female entrepreneur who retained an aggressive no-holds barred... law firm. Amos kept the focus on my objectives which were to move forward with life within a year of filing for divorce. We encountered an unfortunate and unforeseen change in the health status of the opposing party. We were also confronted with complete opposition and non-cooperation with the requirements and timelines of the divorce litigation process. We found our backs against the wall when the opposing party attempted to leverage an emergency surgery (which was successful) into an indefinite stay in the proceedings. In a hearing to contest the indefinite stay, Amos demonstrated tremendous strategic and tactical skill, and the motion to stay was denied while exposing the other side as being completely dishonest and manipulative. Even in the face of the failure in court and exposure for having lied to the court, the opposing party held firm to a position regarded by third party mediators as unrealistic and inconsistent with Maryland law. Again, Amos rose to the occasion by devising and implementing a deposition strategy that further exposed the opposition as being untruthful and as having committed multiple potential criminal offenses against me. In the end, the strategy resulted in a settlement on the eve of trial that I could live and move forward with my life all within a year of filing for divorce. I give the highest recommendation to Amos and Weinberg & Schwartz. Amos is well respected by the court, strategic, and he works well with resource teams that include private investigators, business valuation experts, among others.

If you need a tough lawyer to go up against a difficult spouse. This is your guy!

I originally worked with a law firm who's entire theme was "working toward resolution". I attempted to go the amicable route with my wife. The goal was a clean divorce and 50/50 custody. Clearly what I thought and what she thought were two different things. She began playing games and filed a b...ogus restraining order to separate me from our children and get a leg up on custody. My amicable lawyer represented me at the first portion of the restraining order which is interim. We both were caught off-guard and had limited time to prepare. The spouse came and started stating a bunch of very violent things she hadn't written in her original complaint (among other nonsensical things). It became clear to everyone she was lying and this was about custody but my amicable lawyer felt I should be represented by a strong litigator given her accusations. I was referred to Mr. Whitney. Right from the start I had a good feeling. He was confident, direct, detailed and organized. By the time we appeared for the permanent restraining order hearing I felt like I had nothing to worry about. He beat her down and embarrassed her so badly by poking holes in her ridiculous story and calling out the obvious that her and her attorney dismissed the restraining order in the middle of the hearing. When it was all said and done, she was crying. Not because she was some sort of an abused women because she didn't see Mr. Whitney coming. In the past I had some pretty weak attorneys so seeing someone fight so hard for me this time was a breath of fresh air. When you're dealing with a contested divorce and custody case and the person on the other end is bitter, angry and resentful; willing to go as low as possible, to hell with the nice amicable lawyer. You have to fight fire with fire. It's unfortunate, but some people leave you no choice. And let me tell you, Mr. Whitney brings the fire. I will continue to use him and refer him to those in need of a tough, non-nonsense, direct lawyer.

Tax issue with ex-wife

My ex-wife reopened our divorce agreement for an issue I felt had already been resolved. Obviously I wanted to minimize lawyer fees, while still receiving excellent counsel, for a relatively minor issue. Amos Whitney was extremely diligent and thorough in follow up with the opposing attorney, who's ...communication was spotty at best. Amos helped me resolve this issue, expediently, while being very conscience of cost to me and without having to go to court. I would highly recommend Amos to anyone that needs a good family lawyer!

Honest. Effective. Objective.

I highly recommend Amos as an attorney. Amos gave sound advice, kept my file thin, kept best interest of my children in mind and successfully executed an uncontested divorce (when it could have easily been contested!) Amos is highly knowledgeable in fact and emotion. I recommend you hire and listen t...o Amos Whitney for this transition.

Hiring Amos was a great decision

Amos represented me through some difficult circumstances involving a volatile wife. It was vital to me as a father that I do everything possible to protect my young child and create a plan that would provide future security. When I reconciled myself to the fact that divorce was a necessary part o...f that plan, Amos and I moved forward and achieved a good outcome for all involved. In no small part that was due to Amos understanding how to work productively in the face of the roadblocks being introduced by my high-conflict spouse. Of note, I was pleased that he used his hours with utmost professionalism -- a case like mine can be a goldmine for the unscrupulous. Amos admirably discharged his duty to his client in my case. I would recommend him to anyone facing similar challenges.
