Unsatisfactory Work

I hired this attorney to handle a insurance claim, unfortunately I had to dismiss him. As I was being Gouged for fees after fees and paid him ruffly $18,000, within a year with no success, and clearly this attorney requested more fees just to tell me a year later I would walk away with about $1000.00... after all said and done, I refused to give him any more money as he became more aggressive during a phone conversation requesting fees after I dismissed him, and requesting $20,000, more to settle. I’m not a math wiz, but figures don’t lie. If he would have been honest in the beginning I would have walked away, and paid him for is honestly not give him a retainer of $12,000., and paying fees there after. There was a company that clearly admitted to wrong doing in writing. He retaliated against me by filing paper work of fees owed to the court, but totally not being honest and informing the courts he’s been dismissed. Lesson learned do a serious back ground check before hiring this attorney. I wish I would have done so shame on me. I tried to negotiate a partial refund for unsatisfied work after dismissing him, and the case has never been heard. Didn’t get any where, but trying to convince me how to give him more fees, and keep him on. Unfortunately I had to give him a STAR......

A close reading of this complaint shows that the only real issue was that I billed for my services. It is not wrong for an attorney to be paid for his work. Interestingly, the person omits the fact that I offered her several discounts. When it became clear that the insurance company we sued was trying to bully her with paperwork in order to raise litigation expenses, I felt bad for her, and offered several discounts (I would not bill for a task here and there in an effort to actually keep costs down). Indeed, after adding together all of the discounts noted in this person's invoices, I saved her over $1,000. But again, she conveniently omits this fact. The last issue with the person's criticism concerns the termination. When a client fires a lawyer, the lawyer is required to notify the court. This is for the client's protection. It causes the court to temporarily pause and allow the client some time to get their affairs in order and seek alternative counsel. So, there is no merit to the person's complaints along these lines.
