Brian D. Wise is an experienced family law attorney and litigator. Brian is a graduate of the University of Maryland (B.A. 1989) and the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D. 1992).
Brian was admitted to the Maryland State Bar in 1992 and to the District of Columbia Bar in 1995. He is a member of the Montgomery County, Frederick County, Maryland State and American Bar Associations. Brian is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Montgomery and Frederick County Bar Associations, where he has served as legislative liaison and on the committee for continuing legal education. Law & Politics, a local publication, has named Brian one of the area's Super Lawyers in Maryland and in D.C. for 2008, and 2009. Brian was also named a Maryland and DC Superlawyer for 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Brian has been a member of the American Inns of Court (Barrister; Montgomery County Chapter) and he frequently conducts Continuing Education Lectures (CLE) on Family Law topics. In Maryland, Brian litigates cases in Montgomery County, Frederick County, Prince Georges County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County and Washington County.
Brian is regularly appointed by the Court to represent minor children in custody and visitation matters, having completed the necessary training required in Maryland for such representation. Brian's court appointments for minor children include patient-therapist waiver representation (Nagle v. Hooks Attorney) and best interests representation (Best Interest Attorney). Brian is also appointed by the Court as an auditor or trustee in particular cases to assist the Court with investigations or the disposition of property.
In addition to litigation, Brians maintains an appellate practice, arguing cases in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and the Maryland Court of Appeals. Brian's reported cases include Geramifar v. Geramifar, 688 A.2d 475 (1997) concerning equitable adoption; Crabill v. Crabill, 704 A.2d 532 (1998) concerning alimony;Montgomery County Health & Human Services v. P.F., 137 Md. App. 243, 768 A.2d 112 (2001); and Dorsey v. Tarpley, 381 Md. 109, 847 A.2d 445 (2004), concerning name change for a minor child.
