This Experience Was Emotionally Draining – Please Be Cautious

I found Mr. Burton through a Google search. He had mixed reviews, but during our initial conversations, he was responsive and seemed professional, which gave me hope. He quoted me $2,500 and estimated my divorce would take about 3-4 months. I trusted him. Instead, the process dragged on for a year an...d cost me over $10,000. At first, things seemed okay, but over time, communication broke down completely. Every time I reached out to get updates or ask simple questions, I was billed — even though the delays were often on their end. I was constantly left waiting for responses, and each delay kept me from moving forward with my life. What made it worse was that he was consistently late or delayed in handling my case — but the invoices were always sent on time. That says a lot about where the priorities were. At my first hearing, his staff had failed to bring completed paperwork, which caused the court to reschedule the case by

Liar

I concur with the negative reviews. Initially this firm had high ratings but after everything was done, the only thing that happened was consistent billing of no actual work being performed: --wouldn’t return calls, -- wouldn’t read court correspondence with actionable items being requested -- never ...filed for discovery -- didn’t proofread any documentation requiring clients signature; if corrections to documents are returned, he would never correct them & duplicated errored documents would be sent to you again at later date with the exact same errors. -- He will sympathize and agree to proceeding in the way you want a case to go and then after he gets your money…he proceeds as he wants w/o your consent. -- He’s a “settlement” lawyer. He wants the easiest way to settle your case against your wishes & behind your back. -- I don’t know when this lawyer stopped being great but I would urge you to look elsewhere for counsel and pay more for quality service that everyone is entitled too.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
