Dr. Christian and team (Tanitoluwa Odubiyi, Usman Suleman, Carlisa Brooks) demonstrated exceptional legal acumen in obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order that prevented a group of church Elders from illegitimately ignoring church by-laws. The lead pastor (an elder) bought equipment for his persona...l for-profit business and expensed it to the church, thereby creating an inurement / excessive benefit situation and risking the church's non-profit status. When trustees exposed him and announced they were taking the matter to the congregation, the lead pastor and his four supporting elders moved to remove Trustees from office and, by decree, establish himself and elders as Trustees; also inconsistent with the church's by-laws. Mr. Christian and team quickly and accurately petitioned St. Mary's County court for a Temporary Restraining Order, the order was granted, and the Trustees ultimately informed the congregation of the pastors' and elders' in appropriate conduct. Dr. Christian and team were, in addition, an exceptional pleasure to work with from a business perspective. Ms. Brooks used exceptional judgment to expedite meetings where necessary. Dr Christian and Ms. Odubiyi drove 1.5 hours to attend a congregational meeting AFTER spending a full day in court. Mr. Usman completed the lion's share of the affidavits and brief filings under substantial time pressure. The entire team was very client focused, advice was centered on what we wanted and needed.
