"I spent a long time recently talking to Joan about "educational advocacy" for special needs children in northern Virginia. I have a couple of children myself who are in this process. That world can be very, very complicated but Joan impressed me as understanding both families with special-needs children and the Virginia state rules and regulations about getting the best educational experience for these children that you can. I would highly recommend that if you have a child who is requiring special education services that you at least consult with Joan early on. She will tell it to you straight-sometimes all you need is some good advice-but she will also be able to help you and your family navigate the complex rules. I was very impressed."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
