After graduating from Columbia with a major in Philosophy, I joined the Peace Corps and taught English for two years in Le Republique du Niger, the world's poorest country. I then completed a Masters of International Affairs at Columbia, a Masters of Arts in Law and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, a J.D. at Cornell Law School and an LL.M. at New York Univeristy Law School. I clerked for two years for Chief Judge Jane Restani on the United States Court of International Trade and then clerked for one year for the Honorable Reynaldo Garza, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Chief Judge of the Temporary Emergency Court of Appeals (which has since merged with the Federal Circuit).
After a two year stint in private practice, I became an Assistant Corporation Counsel at the New York City Law Department, where I was promoted to Associate Counsel.
After seven years at the New York City Law Department, I accepted a position at the United States Department of Justice and moved to Washington, D.C.
Though I have moved to D.C., I still enjoy raising money for the New York Philharmonic, the Museum of the City of New York, New York's Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Save Venice, Inc.
When not working, I enjoy ballroom dancing, spending time at the University Club of New York, the Univeristy Club of Washington, D.C., and the City Tavern Club of D.C.
My favorite places are Venice, Monaco and New York City.

Very helpful
Mr. Steiner is a terrific lawyer. Our company used him for an international trade matter when he was working in the private sector and I found him very knowledgeable and helpful.

Excellent attorney
Mr. Steiner worked on an issue for our company when he was still in private practice. He was always available to answer questions and could explain complex legal issues in a way that was understandable to those without a legal background. Wonderful gentleman and attorney. Wish he was still in priv...
"I endorse this lawyer. We went to law school together. He was impressive then, and what he has done since then is even more impressive. He's both a good person and a good lawyer to have on your side."
"I endorse this lawyer. He is an outstanding person of great integrity and intellect. He cares about the quality of his work and the impact that decisions which are made in his cases will have on the future."
"David Steiner is without a doubt one of the most brillant individuals and outstanding lawyers I have had the pleasure to know. David is a highly talented litigator, as well as a wonderful human being. He has my highest endorsement and recommendation. Randie Rosen"
"I endorse David without reservation. I have known him for about 15 years. He is a person of integrity, intellectual ability and dedication, as well as a very good person."
"I attended Cornell Law School with David Steiner and we have remained in regular contact through Cornell Law alumni events. David is devoted to litigating in the public interest. He was a successful member of the NYC Corporation Counsel's office before assuming his current position with the Department of Justice. He has a wide-ranging and strong intellect that he applies to the challenging litigation matters for which the DOJ is responsible. David was a warm, collegial, and engaging classmate, and I have no doubt that he brings those qualities to whatever organization of which he is a part."
"I attended Cornell Law School with David Steiner and have followed his career since that time. David worked for the Peace Corps, has clerked for a federal appellate court judge, worked for two prominent law firms and more recently, devoted his career to government service as an attorney for the NYC Corporation Counsel and now for the prestigious Department of Justice. David is a hard working lawyer and a skilled litigator in a complex practice area that he has worked hard to master. But of course, having known David since law school, I am not at all surprised by his success. I recommend David without any equivocation and I look forward to following his continued success for many years to come."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. David is a top-notch litigator. We worked together at the Tax Division, where he handled, and is still handling, some of the most complex cases in the Division with formidable skill . He is one of the hardest working attorneys I know, in addition to being a wonderful mentor and friend, and a true gentleman."
