Paul Haar can be described in one word, “Amazing.” Paul Haar answers his phone, day or night, weekends, and holidays. When he is on vacation. But it doesn’t stop with the fact that Paul answers his phone, there is more… L...et me explain, my wife’s immigration status is complicated. We met with three different lawyers, Paul being one of them. They all told us the same thing; we had a compelling case because I am a U.S. citizen and because we have a child with Down syndrome. BUT, if we got an unfavorable decision, then there would be no appeal, no recourse, no second chance: my wife, the mother of our intellectually disabled child, could be taken from us and deported to her home country. It is just the way the law is written, and our SAFEST strategy was to wait for immigration reform and hope for more reasonable / more humane laws regarding people with the complications my wife had concerning her status in this country. I contacted the offices of my Congressman and my Senators. I spoke with two different staff members, one from my congressman’s office and one from one of my Senator’s offices, who specialize in complicated immigration cases. They both told me the same thing, the risk for a bad decision was likely low, because we had a compelling case, but what we were risking was high because a bad decision would result in immediate deportation. And, if that were to happen, then my congressman would have to intervene with a letter to stop the deportation. And we would have to renew the letter, every year, for the rest of our lives. And just because my current congressman might be willing to do an annual stay-of-deportation letter, does not mean that the next one will. So, we waited and waited. As our intellectually disabled son approached 18 years of age, we had a difficult decision to make because we need to petition the court for the request for Guardianship. We approached Paul and told him that we had made the decision to ask for a waiver for my wife’s situation because we needed to secure her status in the U.S. before submitting the petition for shared Guardianship of our intellectually disabled son. Paul Haar worked with us to build a compelling case for how damaging the deportation of my wife would be to me and our family. And how she is an outstanding community member. We gathered several affidavits attesting to my wife’s outstanding contributions to the community and how she has been an important part of the families that she has been providing nanny service to over the years. Paul’s approach to our case was ALL-IN. He held back on nothing. We left no stone unturned. He was, simply put, “Amazing.” I am happy to report that a decision came in our favor. The problems with her case have been reviewed and a waiver has been approved. She now has her Green Card and is on the path to Citizenship. After 18 and a half years of marriage and 17 and a half years since the birth of our son with Down syndrome. Did I mention that Paul Haar answers his phone? We were about to sign a contract with a law firm for our e2 visa that was stuck in the American Consulate in Istanbul when a friend told us about Mr Haar. Our intention before having met him was to file a mandamus lawsuit but Mr Haar convinced us to chose another way about which he denied to give an...y details before signing the contract. After signing a contract with him and paying 5000 usd, he said he was really good at what he does and that he was going to “shake them” referring to whoever was in charge of our e2 visa still under administrative process after 9 months. He didn’t say anything else about his system. What he did in a period of 30 days was to send the embassy an email asking about our visa after which he received the exact same answer we did when we wrote them. Then Mr Haar contacted a US senator via email asking him to contact the embassy. Which he did, and received the exact same answer from the embassy. If it wasn’t my friend who told me about Paul Haar, I would think this was a scam and that he wasn’t a real lawyer. But unfortunately he is and this is just the most expensive lesson of my life. After “failing” to get a proper answer through the US senator, Mr Haar decided that we could file a Mandamus lawsuit for which he requested another 5000 usd. This means we paid 5000 dollars for him to send an email to a us senator and talk to us for 1-1.5 hours on the phone. He might be ok with this deal but it just isn’t right or fair. When we told him so he compared us to a child who gets mad when they can’t get a cookie. He has very poor communication. He says things like “stop talking” during conversations, thinks this is normal and manages to make you regret each time you need to talk to him. We definetely regret having met him and we hope this review prevents a few people from going through a similar experience.
