About Melanie
Biography
Melanie was born and raised in Dallas, TX. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2002 and her JD from the University of Baltimore in 2006. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the District of Columbia. She will waive into the TX and VA bars in the upcoming year.
Melanie focuses primarily in the areas of real estate litigation and conflict resolution.
Melanie was actively involved in Maryland Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project since its inception in 2008 and serves as a Mentor Attorney at the Foreclosure Solutions Workshops around the State. She continues to serves as Of Counsel to housing counseling agencies in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, and Eastern Shore, Maryland and in the District of Columbia. Melanie has also testified as an expert in foreclosure litigation.
She served on the Pro Bono Resource Center Board of Directors (Secretary), Chair of PBRC Program Committee, PBRC Recruitment and Training Committee, PBRC Strategic Planning Committee, and Public Awareness Committee. She is a member of the American Bar Association and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
Melanie teaches Lawyer Bargaining as an Adjunct Professor at American University Washington College of Law. She is also an active volunteer for CASA DC and volunteers for organizations that support our active duty servicemembers.

Misses critical court deadlines and makes client do the work
Melanie Murray Mfume represented me in a civil litigation case. She was one of three attorneys that Civil Justice referred me to after I requested a "low/no income" attorney. She charged me $500 upfront and said she would charge an additional $1000 if she took the case to court, but she said the case...

Replied last April 06, 2015You have not identified yourself, therefore I have no way to confirm whether you were actually a client, a consultation or a limited scope research client. I have not, and do not, miss court deadlines and I do not enter into a retainer agreement and then permit them to complete any legal work that I may be responsible for as that creates ethical conflicts. I have a statement on my website noting that I do not permit clients to do work once I have been retained as counsel. If you were actually a client and had to file pleadings and do legal work on your own, then we did not have a retainer agreement for me to represent you in your actual case.
