Abraham L. Burgess

With more than seven years of overseas active duty service with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Abe Burgess brings important experience to Tully Rinckey PLLC's military law practice. As an Associate at the firm, he can represent service members in a variety of military criminal matters, including court-martial and non-judicial punishment.

During his JAG career, Abe worked as a trial counsel, legal assistance attorney, command judge advocate and trial defense services. Prior to joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, as part of a one-year mobilization, Abe served as an attorney advisor to the command judge advocate for the Army’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC) in Alexandria, Va. There he focused on such legal issues as such as claims, contracts, litigation support, command inquires and unauthorized commitment of non-appropriated funds.

Abe's international service with the JAG Corps took him to Romania, Bulgaria, Germany and South Korea. Most recently he served as a command judge advocate with Joint Task Force – East, where he was the sole legal advisor for U.S. Forces in joint operations in Romania and Bulgaria. Before that Abe served as a defense attorney for soldiers stationed throughout Europe. In Vilseck, Germany, he defended soldiers in over 30 courts martial involving rape, drug offenses, aggravated assault and other charges. Earlier, he served as a prosecutor and legal advisor in Giessen Germany and as a legal assistance attorney in Tongduchon, South Korea.

Abe currently lives in Arlington, Virginia. When not at work, Abe enjoys traveling and reading. Currently, Abe spends most of his free time chasing after and attempting to train a new puppy. Abe received his juris doctorate from Boston University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
