Biography
María Mendoza grew up on the outskirts of El Paso, Texas, the daughter of a mother who immigrated from Durango, Mexico under the Bracero program. Inspired by firsthand experience with immigration and hardship, she pursued law and graduated at age 23. Ms. Mendoza clerked for the Honorable Vanessa Ruiz on the D.C. Court of Appeals and was a 2009–2010 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute law fellow. She has handled thousands of immigration matters—regularizing status, securing work authorization, and winning cases other attorneys deemed unwinnable—and also leads personal injury and mass tort litigation, including catastrophic vehicle and pedestrian claims in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Earlier in her career she litigated hundreds of administrative, state, and federal actions for government entities and corporations. An active advocate for immigrants, women, and underserved communities, Ms. Mendoza serves in professional organizations and uses creativity and experience to obtain practical solutions for her clients.
