Gun Possesion Charges in Washington DC

I do not believe that there is another lawyer out there that could have done a better job in my case then Mr. Norris did. In December of 2009 I entered the District of Columbia and completely forgot about the guns and ammunition that I had in my car from a previous weekend of hunting in my home stat...e of Virginia. I came into the nation’s capitol to meet with an old friend of mine, and the next thing I knew I was spending time in the custody of the Washington DC’s finer jail system. I spent from Saturday afternoon until Monday at 5:00pm in custody. At 9:30am on Monday morning I met with Mr. Norris for the first time through a glass window who assured me that I was coming home that day and everything was going to be okay and I needed to do the best I could to relax. That morning it appeared that I was being charged with not only five misdemeanors but also with a felony possession charge. With Mr. Norris' years of experience in DC and the connections that he has made, he was able to call the prosecutor's office and have them dismiss the felony before I was ever officially charged with it in court. In many situations people are accused of doing something they may or may not have done and try to fight the government’s charge saying they did not do any of the events that the government alleges. My situation was completely different where I was saying that yes I had my guns, however I completely forgot that I had them and never meant to bring them to DC and never would have if I had remembered they were in my car. Mr. Norris stood by me and instead of telling me to take a plea he argued a piece of the law that I'm not sure has ever been done before against this charge, and that is with every crime there must be intent, and did I actually have intent in this crime? My word and character being as important to me as they are, it made me extremely relieved that if nothing else I would go on record saying that I never meant to commit a crime. While my case is different than many others it took an incredibly skilled lawyer who not only knew the law, but also knew the people in the DC system and how to go about properly building a strategy for us to show the government that what I was trying to say was indeed the case. I would recommend to anyone that in a scary situation such as mine to put their faith in Mr. Norris and realize he is going to do the absolute best job that he can for you, and that I doubt it is possible to find a better lawyer out there. He does not over promise with high hopes to make a client feel better either, the entire time he kept me completely abreast of all of the dangers we would face in my situation and that going to trial is always risky. If you are researching Mr. Norris because you are in a criminal situation, please rest assured that this is the best lawyer you can have!

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
