Mauricus Rayshad Lofton

Mauricus R. Lofton, Esq. is an Associate in Tully Rinckey PLLC’s Washington, DC office, where he focuses his practice on representing federal and private sector employees, in addition to criminal matters.

Prior to joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, Mauricus was an Employment Litigation Associate at Biesecker Dutkanych & Macer, LLC in Louisville, Kentucky, where he represented federal and private sector employees before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, American Arbitration Association and state and federal courts. Mauricus has represented clients in a range of matters, including employment discrimination based on age, race, disability gender and sexual orientation. He also represented clients in whistleblower actions and has extensive experience drafting EEOC position statements, serving and responding to discovery requests, defending and taking depositions, and opposing summary judgment motions. He is well versed in federal and state employment laws, and has regularly advised management-level employees on severance packages.

Previously, Mauricus was the Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Louisville, Kentucky where he was responsible for prosecuting felony offenses in Jefferson County Circuit Court and managed a diverse caseload of matters including murder, assault, robbery, burglary, DUIs and felony welfare and check fraud.

Mauricus also served as the Magistrate of the 20th Judicial District of the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he provided an impartial review of complaints of criminal conduct brought by state law enforcement agencies and the general public and determined whether there was probable cause to issue criminal charges. He also reviewed civil complaints regarding debt collections and asset forfeitures as well as issued medical/mental detention orders, search warrants and bond determinations.

Additionally, Mauricus was a Staff Attorney in Fayette County Circuit Court in Lexington, Kentucky assigned to manage civil and appellate dockets, and was a Law Clerk (Risk and Compliance) at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
