Mr. Funk was undoubtedly presented with a very unusual case when he took me on as a client, as any other lawyer surely would’ve ushered me out the door of their office after they heard my story! He reviewed the case and all of its oddities and told me what steps we needed to take. He was confident af...ter reviewing the medical documentation/evidence that was gained over the 5 months, that we would have a relatively strong case against the charges. The charges were very serious. I had always been (still am) a law abiding citizen so all of this was very new to me, it was very stressful, he was understanding in that aspect as well. He was able to compile enough documentation to have the charges dismissed before going to trial and I couldn’t have been more relieved. My family and I are very grateful for the outcome. Mr. Funk is a genuinely nice person but he didn’t show interest in my case after we retained him. What I learned after court was that my case was easily winnable. I was innocent but he suggested that I take a plea because it would have been my word against a child’s word. He was not at all concerned ...with preserving my job. He did not do his research on the commissioner. When I stood in front of the commissioner she gave me advice, her tone and choice of words let me know that she would have dismissed my case. She was the same ethnicity, sex and age as me and her informal tone and words let me know that she identified with me and understood that I was not guilty. But I had already taken a plea that would ruin me for 5 years at least.
