Kathryn J Laffey

I hired Ms. Laffey for a prenuptial to protect myself. She recommended, and we agreed, that I void a prior QDRO for more money for both my soon to be husband and I. Turns out voiding the QDRO (including survivors benefits) takes precedence over the prenuptial, meaning I will not receive survivor's ...benefits. This greatly affects my future.

Kathy was my lawyer during an incredibly contentious divorce and dissolution. She came highly recommended, and I'm so glad I chose her to represent me. I worked with Kathy on a very complicated and emotional divorce and custody. The process of divorce can be quite emotional and overwhelming. Having said that, I am thankful that I hired Kathy Laffey as my lawyer. I asked family and friends if they knew of a "good" lawyer. And 3 different people (who did not know each other) suggested Kathy Laffey ... All stating that she w...as "the best"! Her professionalism will speak for itself. But the bonus for me was her constant support and respect for my feelings and opinions during this trying time. And at the end of the day ... I was more than happy with the results. Teaming up with Kathy was a Win/Win for me!

We hired Mrs. Laffey to mediate a contentious divorce. Her price is more expensive than some others in the area, but we wanted to hire someone who specifically handles divorce mediation. When we sat down with her, we were horrified that she insisted that we spend hours working out every bit of m...ath on an unorganized scribble-covered legal pad (and doing the math in her head), rather than using the spreadsheets we had prepared, and previously agreed upon. Every question she asked seemed designed to delay us. For our questions, she often responded that she would have to look up the answer. A week after that meeting (which ended without actionable next steps), when we asked her if she would look at some updated agreements for us, she pushed us to meet again in person. We declined (since all we wanted was a brief review), and she didn't get back to us for weeks -- despite repeated inquiries. As we worked forward it became clear that the ONLY time Mrs. Laffey will reply to your contact requests is if you are requesting an in-person meeting or something time consuming which will eat up your retainer. My ex and I worked our way through the divorce without her -- despite our differences we could agree that she was unhelpful and time-wasting. And, unsurprisingly, she was unresponsive for a long time to our requests to return the remains of the retainer. All contact requests were ignored. Eventually, however, she did return the remaining amount.
