Dennis James Skayhan

There are very few individuals in a persons life that truly inspire them in ways that exponentially change them forever. In 2010 a man by the name of Darnell L. Martin tried to kill me in what has now become known as the case of the "Romantic Rival." Dennis was assigned as the prosecutor for the Berk...s County District Attorneys office, and from the first time I talked with him I could tell he truly cared about me as a crime victim. He fought zealously to convict the defendant and asked my opinion when conducting plea negotiations. He was detail oriented, professional, and one of the most ferocious prosecutors I have ever encountered. The defendant was severely punished for aggravated assault, and recieved jailtime similar to the amount some defendants get for a murder. As I watched Mr. Skayhan in court, and how he fought for my case, I decided that his integrity, and commitment to being a voice for victims was something I wanted to emulate. That was 2010 when I first met Mr. Skayhan and now in the year 2014, I am in my final year of Law School at the Thurgood Marshall school of Law in Houston, TX. It is truly because of the amazing qualities I saw in Mr. Skayhan that I have decided to attend law school and become a prosecutor myself.
