No problems with your green card or reentering the US but you will have to wait longer to become a citizen.

Get an experienced immigration attorney for him now. He may have some options including reopening the criminal case under Padilla v. Kentucky.

It is not unusual to wait for a decision for a few months. You may certainly hire an attorney to help with the process if the delay is much longer.
