Do NOT Recommend

On June 28th, 2023, I contacted Olivia Gabriel, referred by the Philadelphia Bar Association due to a prior referral's communication issues. My case involved a tenant-landlord dispute, with me as the tenant. Unfortunately, my first impression during our 30-minute initial consultation, which I paid a ...referral fee for, was less than welcoming. Despite the time constraints, Olivia seemed more interested in talking than listening, repeatedly stating, "You are only entitled to a 30-minute call." I had to interrupt to share the details of my case, leaving me with the impression that she was trying to rush through our conversation. Despite this, Olivia did offer some advice, such as putting my rent money into escrow, which is the reason for the 1-star rating, that and the fact I can’t leave a 0-star review. When I mentioned sending her documents for review, she reluctantly agreed but made it clear she only cared about the time limit. After sending her the documents, she criticized the volume, again showing a lack of concern for my situation. When I inquired about the cost of filing a suit, she quoted a price of approximately $1,000 and suggested waiting until the end of my lease to include all issues. However, when I contacted her as advised, Olivia seemed unaware of my need to file a suit, asking about a court date. This miscommunication led to scheduling a call for September 18th at 5 pm. In preparation, I meticulously wrote an 8-page document detailing the violations and wrongdoings of my landlord, along with over 200 pages of supporting exhibits, along with an inquiry about payment and representation. To my surprise, Olivia responded by deeming, “This is not a one thousand dollars case” and requiring a deposit of $2,500, contradicting her previous quote. When the scheduled call time arrived, Olivia didn't call, and I had to reach out at 5:05 pm. Her response was hostile, blaming me for her delay, as she stated, “I was on the phone!” despite her being the one to select the date and time for our call. She did not let me know she was running late or otherwise preoccupied. During our conversation, I asked if she reviewed the documents I sent, even briefly, and she said, “No. You were only entailed to 30 minutes with me and that is up. I am not going to review anything you send me, especially since I am not getting paid for this.” Then proceeded to yell at me for having over 200+ pages of exhibits, stating, “Why do you have all of these pages!? Is it even necessary?” I said, “Yes, all of those pages showcase the emails and proof of all of the wrongdoings, as stated in my initial document. They would help my case. Again, I wanted you to have everything now so you can make a well-informed decision on if you are able to successfully take my case.” She then said, “Well, before you called me, I was on the phone. So, I will call you back in a moment”, then she abruptly hung up on me, and it has been more than 2 weeks without a callback. My interactions with Olivia Gabriel have left me with the impression that she prioritizes money over client communication. In comparison, a prior case with another firm required a $1,500 retainer and provided access to a whole team. Olivia operates as a one-person practice, yet her fees exceed those of larger firms with better client relations. Based on my experiences, I would advise others to save their time and money and look elsewhere for legal representation. Olivia's approach does not align with respectful and client-focused services. I believe the Philadelphia Bar Association should reconsider referrals to her, especially for tenant-landlord cases, which do not appear to be within her top 5 primary areas of expertise based on her Avvo profile. So why was she even referred to me in the first place?

Thank you

I want to just say thank you to Attorney Olivia Gabriel. She was truly awesome in taken my brothers divorce case and helping him correctly file and finalize his divorce. I believe it was 4yrs ago he seeked out another lawyer who did nothing she said she would do. Olivia heard the details and worker v...ery hard in getting the correct divorce filed and finalized. She was very easy to communicate with and answered every question whenever we asked. She was efficient and fast. Again I want to say thank you for all that you've done. I definitely will recommend her.
