Deenah Zahara Kogan

Deenah Z. Kogan is an Associate Attorney with Galfand Berger, LLP.

Deenah earned her Juris Doctor from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law where she was the recipient of the Sarah Nerino Perseverance Award; the National Association of Women Lawyers Outstanding Law Student Award; and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for courses in Justice Lawyering and Foundations of Legal Analysis. She also graduated with Pro Bono Service Honors for doing over 100 hours of pro bono service hours. During law school, she participated in the Drexel Appellate Litigation Clinic, where she represented indigent clients on appeals of their cases in state and federal courts. In addition, she was a summer intern in the Governor’s Office of General Counsel, Department of Insurance, for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Deenah was the recipient of the Louis D. Brandeis Mayer Horwitz Scholarship Award for her involvement in community service, and particularly with her advocacy work for victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking. Some of her advocacy work included developing a sex-trafficking education toolkit that has been used in several states, working on the passage of New York’s Trafficking Victims Protection and Justice Act, and mobilizing the multi-organizational initiative “We were Slaves,” in efforts to create a dialogue about sex trafficking in communities of faith.

A summa cum laude and Dean’s List graduate of John Jay College with a degree in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, Deenah is committed to serving others and striving to make the world a more caring and just place. For over seven years, she worked as a client advocate and liaison for individuals with developmental disabilities, and also attended various training programs on Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
