This sounds horrible like a horror movie. Have a lawyer review his medical records to see if anything can be done.

You did hire him to take care of your matter. Best bet is just sit down with the lawyer and discuss a resolution to the matter.

Sometimes the court allows you to have a power or attorney represent you. There is a form for that.
