I had the pleasure of interacting with Attorney Freddy Godoy, as I work through a very delicate, complicated, and time sensitive abuse and custody matter. I was particularly impressed by Mr. Godoy's work ethic, his dedication to helping me, and his overall professionalism. He made himself accessible ...at all hours and utilized all channels of communication (voice call, text message, and email) to ensure that my questions/concerns were addressed. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of family law was evident in the guidance he offered and instructions he provided to my family and me. He was also impressively familiar with the various judges, the necessary course of action, and expectations given the nature of the case. I was in a tough position, my daughter was being neglected of her education and I'm a single father that didn't know what to do and needed help. I consulted with Freddy about my situation and after speaking with him I immediately felt like he was the right lawyer for me. We first filed an emergency h...earing. Then was given a court date less than 2 weeks. My daughters mother had hired a lawyer as well but Freddy was really confident as I in him. He knew important people which is always a great thing. First was a hearing with a mediator. Now the other attorney was trying to make me look like a bad guy and Freddy fired away with facts and his terminology was perfect which is what you need in a court room. He knew exactly what to say. Prepared and ready!! After they reviewed some facts. The mediator agreed with my lawyer and granted me legal sole physical custody of my daughter immediately. We were given another court date to come back in 7months for a review. My daughters mother fired her first lawyer and hired another lawyer who was just as confident as Freddy. Once again her new lawyer started making more accusations of me not following custody orders. Which I was to an extant. Freddy had to explain my reasons why and the Judge realized why I did what I did and the truth behind the mothers scheme. Freddy was ready for anything they had. Which I loved. Freddy made it very clear to court how important it was that my daughter needed to be with me to help her in her education. Which is the truth. The Judge continued my legal sole physical custody of my daughter and we go back to court in another 8 months. I am more than happy to say that we prevailed once again. I am more than positive when we go back to court I have nothing to worry about. As an attorney who has practiced criminal law for 34 years I must share my experience in the most important case in my career. ThAt case would be my court battle for custody of my little boy, a case that I needed to win for his safety and well being. First you must know the facts of this case. I r...aised the son of my ex-girlfriend as my son and paying for his parochial school education. When he entered the fifth grade his mother pulled him out of his school and enrolled him in public school. She had no reasonable reason for doing this other that want him to consider me his father. When my little boy asked me to take him to court so he could live with me and go back to school I knew I had to save him. I interviewed several attorneys but Mr Godoy is the only attorney who said it would be difficult to win but we needed to save my boy. He explained he could not guarantee a victory but he promised he would to give me his best. But he made me agree that I had to follow his professional advise and not second guess him since I'm an attorney also. As his stressed that although I'm an expert in the field of criminal law he is the expert in family law. As hard as that was I hold to the adage that " a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a clientOnce I retained Mr Godoy he immediately got me an emergency hearing to allow me visitation. He went on the theory of "loco parentis" , a legal concept that most attorneys don't ordinarily use. He managed to get me an emergency hearing and had the judge issue a temporary order that I was loco parentis (which means I have acted in a parental capacity). Once he got that order he was able to secure me court ordered visitation. Once we overcame thAt hurdle he had me give a mountain go documents, cancelled checks and photos. He sifted through all this paper and produced a trial/exhibit binder containing 30 exhibits we chronicled my relationship with my boy. I was so impressed ( as well as the trial judge who eventually heard the case) that these exhibits captured the essence of my relationship with the child and how my boy has thrived with my love and care for him. I was also amazed how mr Godoy, thinking outside the box, he obtained two years of texts sent boy the boys mother to me which showed how she allowed me as well expected me to be the child's father. The final hurdle in preparing for trial was getting live witnesses to attest that I have always acted as the child's father. He did this by obtaining school records but also getting rhe principles from three different school as well as all of my boys teachers. Doing this seemed impossible since the archdiocese initially had their legal department attempt to prohibit the school staff from appearing in court and testifying. But by his legal maneuvering, connections and perhaps his charm he had three school principles and two teacher in court ready to testify at the trial. He also had the rest of the faculty on call ready to testify by phone. Just before the trial I remembered the opposing attorney laughing at me saying I didn't have a prayer because I was not the father. Boy hearing that totally devastated me but mr Godoy assured me that we were prepared that he was confident that the attorney would not be laughing after the trial. Well the trial was held on my boys birthday, April 22, and just after hearing two witnesses and my lawyers legal argue men the judge ruled that I had joint custody but most important I had sole and complete physical custody. Boy what a birthdate gift for my little one. I have had custody over a year now and every night when I kiss my son good night I thank God mr Godoy helped save my son. No words can ever express how thankful I am but please know you will forever be in my prayers.
