Hired John to handle my IRS issues back in 2016. He required a $10,000 retainer, which I paid in full. He was supposedly in contact with someone from the IRS and had a settlement agreement in place, I sent the settlement amount to the IRS as he told me to. He told me that all we had to do was to ...wait to hear back from them after I sent the check, I contacted him many times by email over the last couple years to see what was going on. He would always respond with a short message like "no news" or "nothing new". I started getting letters again from the IRS and spoke to another accountant about it. With one phone call they found out that John McGovern never had a settlement in place and all that my money went toward was a deposit on my account. I sent McGovern an email stating that I wanted to terminate our professional relationship and that I would like to come pick up all of my paperwork, I also asked that any of my $10,000 retainer be returned to me and if it was diminished, that I would need to see a funds disbursement statement. His reply was that the retainer was exhausted a year or two ago. He never did furnish a statement and he never told me this previously. John McGovern is without a doubt the most unprofessional, rude and underqualified attorney that I have ever worked with. BUYER BEWARE!!!
