Dana Green severely misrepresented her role during my PFA (Protection From Abuse) case in March 2025. At the time, she was a newly licensed attorney only a few months into practice. She introduced herself as an advocate on the intake form and did not disclose that she was a licensed attorney. At no p...oint did she explain her actual legal role or her obligations as my attorney.
Ms. Green failed to advise me of my rights or walk me through the critical implications of the documents I was signing. She referred to the process as “negotiations,” never explaining that what I was actually signing was a final PFA agreement a legally binding order that gave my husband exclusive possession of our marital home. This was done despite my documented requests for housing, financial support, and protection listed on my original PFA petition. I made clear that I had nowhere to live and was displaced out of state.
She allowed me to unknowingly waive those rights, resulting in my homelessness for nearly a year, along with denial of access to my personal property and further exposure to harm. I later discovered the reality of what had taken place only after contacting outside DV organizations and reviewing the court paperwork on my own. I was in a traumatized state at the time, expecting competent and trauma-informed legal guidance. Instead, I was misled, uninformed, and retraumatized.
Ms. Green was not present when I arrived early for the hearing. She failed to sit with me, failed to explain the agreement beforehand, and failed to advocate for my needs or safety. She allowed the process to proceed in a courtroom we were not originally assigned to, with a judge who appeared confused about the case. No one explained what was happening. I was left to sign legal orders without a full understanding of the consequences. This is legal malpractice.
Her inexperience should not have come at the cost of my stability and dignity. Being new to legal aid is no excuse for failing to inform a domestic violence survivor of her legal rights, especially when so much was at stake.
Her failure to protect me caused profound emotional, financial, and legal harm. I missed my own graduation. I lost my home. I suffered under a legal system that ignored and silenced me with her assistance. She did not advocate for me as a Black woman, nor as a domestic violence survivor. Her actions contributed to the systemic issues women of color face when seeking legal protection and support.
On social media, she portrays herself as a progressive advocate, claiming to support racial and gender equity. But when it came time to stand up for me a Black woman in real need; she handed my abuser everything without question.
In my opinion, Dana Green did not uphold her duty of care, nor the ethical and professional standards required of legal aid attorneys. I do not recommend her to any woman navigating the family court or DV system especially not women of color. This experience has left me deeply harmed and still recovering.
