Joseph N. Gothie

About me

I have practiced in York County since 1999.  I clerked with Judge John S. Kennedy who was assigned a criminal court caseload and civil motions when I clerked for him. He later presided over all DUI and serious vehicle cases for several years, developing the "Target 25" program during that period, but he has since rotated out of adult criminal court.

I am a member of the Pennsylvania Criminal Defense Lawyers, and I have presented at multiple education events offered by them to criminal defense lawyers on the Right to Confrontation as it relates to DUI law as well as how to defend DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) cases. I have trained all the Magisterial District Judges in Pennsylvania on Drug Recognition Expert testimony.

I was Treasurer for the York County Bar Association and later a member of its Board of Directors for about a decade.

I served as Treasurer for the Pennsylvania Immigration Resources Center (PIRC) and was member of its board for several years.  I did this because I value our country's immigration heritage as well as the freedom to pursue a better life that my ancestors enjoyed.  I also believe that legitimate refugees from human trafficking and torture must be offered sanctuary someplace in the world.
