Levon Jones, aka "Bo" was falsely convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of a local bootlegger. Through the efforts of Ken Rose and Mark Kleinschmidt, U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle... granted Mr. Jones a new trial. I was appointed to represent Bo. By aggressively investigating the case, and challenging the State's key witness, I along with my co-counsel Cassy Stubbs and Brian Stull, both of the ACLU were able to get the District Attorney to dimiss all charges against Bo Jones. State v. Leslie A. Lincoln
Mar 23, 2007
OUTCOME: Not Guilty on all counts.
Leslie Lincoln’s story is of how an innocent woman, who had never been in trouble with the law, came to be falsely charged with the murder of her mother, her most trusted and best friend. Her ordeal ...and story is one of a sloppy investigation, false DNA tests, jailhouse informants seeking favor from the State, and an overly aggressive district attorney.
Improper and shameful behavior unearthed unfounded rumors against Leslie. The rumors “unearthed†by the biased police detective had Leslie depending on her mother financially, ignoring that Leslie earned in excess of $40,000.00 a year as a director or a local nursing home; and that Leslie had approximately $10,000.00 in savings at the time her mother was murdered. The rumors had Leslie drinking excessively. Some stories were circulated that Leslie used illegally drugs, which was simply not true. Other rumors had Leslie fighting with her mother. These rumors were as false as the rest of the evidence against Leslie. All of he rumors ignored the truth and that Leslie was successfully managing a nursing home, and had never had so much as a traffic ticket.
As Leslie's attorneys I dealt with these rumors and stories by uncovering the truth. When the trial came, we presented all of our evidence through cross examination of the state’s witnesses, and without calling a single witness we were able to obtain a NOT GUILTY verdict.
