Constant wrong information

I hired Paul Murphy for my bankruptcy case. He took $3700 and the only thing he did was file my bankruptcy. I provided him with all of the information that he transferred to his letterhead. (I provided him with all the forms already figured out). Anytime I had a question about my bankruptcy Paul Mur...phy gave me wrong information. For example, he said we could keep our car when our lease ran out. We made our payments on the car every month. At the end of the lease we found out our payments weren't being reported by the car dealership to the credit bureaus and they would not let us finance the car when the lease was up. Whenever we had questions about the IRS, Paul gave us incorrect information which we discovered when taxes were due. He told us we could still get a payment plan from the IRS while in bankruptcy. The IRS won't give someone in bankruptcy a payment plan. Also, Paul said we wouldn't have any problems renting an apartment. We can't move even though we have a good rental payment history and are good tenants. A sincere question: are there any bankruptcy lawyers that can answer a debtors questions accurately or is it their sole job only to file the bankruptcy? I would have filed the bankruptcy on my own because I spent a lot of time filling out the paper work. However, I decided to hire a lawyer to answer questions like the ones I just posted above since I had signed up for a 5 year Ch 13 bk. What kind of lawyer should a debtor hire if they want answers to bankruptcy questions and not just a lawyer to file?

Bankruptcy screwed up.

Don't use this guy as your lawyer. They screwed my bankruptcy all they way up. I ended up still having to pay a lien on my house which was the whole reason i went to these people. When i call there the secretary does this fake"i can't hear you " bit on the phone and won't let me get through. I go in ...the office and he's always not there. They are unprofessional and will screw you over and not return your calls. I wish i could get my money back. AVOID!!

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
