My name is Charles Hartwell. I have been practicing law since 1988. Between 1999 and 2011, I served as a prosecuting attorney for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, bringing disciplinary actions against a wide range of professional licensees. I learned the ropes of that practice, and I now use that experience to defend professional licensees against prosecutions.
I have successfully represented accountants, behavioral specialists, professional counselors, car salespersons, doctors and a number of other licensees. I have had charges reduced, and cases dismissed. I have also resolved cases with closure at the investigative stage.
And that brings up an important point. When someone is accused of a crime, where they may lose their freedom as a result, they immediately find a good lawyer to defend them. If you are a professional licensee, and you are told you are under investigation in a case where you can have your license revoked, how long do you think you should go it alone? The best defensive results come with early involvement.
While at the Commonwealth, I provided training to their paralegals and investigators. I am intimately familiar with legal standards and relevant precedent, defenses, elements of various violations, due process issues and all other aspects necessary to effective defense of these claims.
I also have conducted a debtor/creditor bankruptcy practice since 1988. I have been practicing in the United States Bankruptcy Courts of all Pennsylvania Districts since 1993, representing debtors and creditors. I am experienced in adversary litigation in chapters 11, 13 and 7.
I litigate administrative matters and appeals before the Social Security Administration, Unemployment Compensation Board of Review, the State Civil Service Commission, and other administrative bodies of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
