Trevor J. Weigle v. Township of Bloomfield, et al.
Sep 06, 2012
OUTCOME: This matter settled at trial for $220,000.00 prior to jury selection.
Plaintiff Trevor Weigle, Health Officer/Director of Health and Human Services for the Township of Bloomfield, complained to the State of New Jersey that his job position was improperly classified in v...iolation of the Civil Service Act. He alleged that, in retaliation for his complaint, the Township and its Board of Health terminated his employment, split his former position into two different positions with identical job responsibilities, gave his former subordinate the Director position and rehired him to the Health Officer position. The Defendants also slashed his salary by more than $20,000.00. Mr. Weigle alleged that these adverse employment actions violated New Jersey's whistleblower statute, the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act. As a result, Mr. Weigle resigned his position.
