OUTCOME: Victory for my client. The Court of Appeal held that my client had unlawfully been denied opportunity for legal research. Court vacated the restitution order and remanded the case for a new hearing.

Client, a convicted murderer, represented himself at a hearing on the amount of restitution he must pay. Despite the judge's order that the sheriff's office give client access to a law library, he was ... given none. At the next hearing, the judge denied client's request for a continuance and imposed restitution. I was appointed to represent client on appeal.

OUTCOME: Complete victory for my client. The Court of Appeal reversed the judgment as to the damages awarded to our opponent but affirmed the judgment as to the damages awarded to my client.

Client was sued by former business partner over dissolution of company; client cross-complained. At trial, both parties were awarded damages; opponent was awarded more. Client hired me to handle his ... appeal.

OUTCOME: Complete victory for my client. The Court of Appeal held that the officer's stop of my client's car violated his Fourth Amendment right to be free of unreasonable seizures. The conviction was reversed (168 Cal.App.4th 1050).

Client was convicted on drug charges after his motion to suppress evidence was denied. The car he was driving was stopped by a police officer who claimed he believed client's passenger might be ill an ... d in need of help. The officer found drugs in the car. I was appointed to represent client on appeal.

OUTCOME: Complete victory for my client. The Court of Appeal held that the police had no reasonable basis for believing client was armed and dangerous, which the Fourth Amendment requires for an involuntary pat-down search. The conviction was reversed.

Client was convicted on drug possession charges after his motion to suppress evidence was denied. Officers responding to a call about a suspicious person found client standing on a sidewalk. After as ... king him several questions, they patted him down without permission. They found drugs on his person. After his conviction, I was appointed to represent him on appeal.

OUTCOME: United States Supreme Court granted my petition for certiorari (that is, agreed to hear the case). At that point, I stepped aside and allowed more experienced Supreme Court attorneys to take the lead. We ultimately lost by a 6-3 vote (547 U.S. 843).

Client, a parolee, was stopped and searched by a police officer with no reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.
