Kim has over 40 years of experience in criminal law. He started his career as a county prosecutor before becoming a federal prosecutor and then switched sides to represent those accused of crimes. He is a preeminent practitioner in the area of DUI/DWI law. He is frequently called upon to speak to other lawyers and law enforcement groups on DUI Law. He is also a member of the National College of DUI Defense Attorneys. His extensive trial experience coupled with his knowledge of the scientific aspects of a DUI prosecution make him a formidable advocate for his DUI clients. Kim is most active in the Pittsburgh and Allegheny County areas, but will take cases from the surrounding areas as well.
For a professional who has prosecuted over 300 murder cases and other crimes ranging from motor vehicle violations to sexual assault, Kim now defends those accused of DUI-related crimes. Many of his DUI cases have been published by the highest courts of Pennsylvania. Kim will work hard and effectively to resolve cases before they go to trial.
Family ties are important to Kim, whose congenial demeanor belies a toughness in court that wins acquittals for his clients. A Pittsburgh native (who once tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers), Kim spent his early working years as an assistant district attorney for Allegheny County. His attention to detail led the District Attorney to put him in charge of complex cases involving serial murder, homicide, investigating grand juries, and electronic surveillance. As such, no one was surprised when Kim was put on loan to the U.S. Attorneys Office for a special prosecution.
A graduate of Adrian College and the Duquesne University School of Law, Kim Riester is a noted lecturer on the subject of Driving Under the Influence and Motor Vehicle Law for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Department of Transportation, and the Pennsylvania Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Kim has also lectured the Pennsylvania State Police, the City of Pittsburgh Police, and the Allegheny County Police Acadamies.
In addition to courtroom experience, Kim prepares extensively commencing with the initial client conference. From the preliminary hearing stage through appeals, Kim has a reputation for being exceptionally thorough. The motions filed on behalf of his clients are perhaps unsurpassed in factual detail, legal analysis, and decisional authority. These in-depth motions provide each client with a unique invocation of their statutory and constitutional rights. If a case does proceed to trial, Kim's experience in the courtroom is second to none.
Being of a personable attitude, Kim has a history of significant success. His experience and knowledge coupled with his specialized trianing and resources, leads him to explain all aspects of the proceedings thoroughly. Attorney Riester does his best to make a difficult experience as easy possible.
Kim resides in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife, with who he has two children. In his free time he enjoys volunteering his time to local animal shelters. When he's not walking a dog, he can be found further volunteering his time by acting as a Special Prosecutor in animal cruelty cases.

One case was ultimately dismissed and the other case he negotiated a future employment killing felony reduced to a lesser cha...
