Katherine Leech Vollen earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
While in law school, Ms. Vollen participated in the Elder Law Clinic and the Family Law Clinic, where she represented pro se litigants in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas pro se Motions program. As a result of her clinical work, she was awarded the prestigious Clinical Legal Education Association’s (CLEA) Outstanding Clinical Student award. In addition, she received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in the Family Law Clinic, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law Community Service award.
Ms. Vollen is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (Member, Family Law Section) and the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA), where she serves as an elected member of the Family Law council and the Young Lawyer’s Division (YLD) council. She currently chairs the ACBA Family Law Section’s Pro Bono Committee, and serves as a member of the YLD Public Service Committee. She is the current chair of the YLD’s “Very Important Papers” Program and serves as the YLD Liaison to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is the PBA Mock Trial Attorney Advisor for Gateway Senior High School, her alma mater.
Ms. Vollen has developed a unique understanding of the legal and social issues facing families and children through her volunteer work at the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and also through her volunteer work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), serving as an advocate for children involved in the Juvenile Court system. She participates in Neighborhood Legal Service’s Protection from Abuse (PFA) program and serves as a volunteer attorney for the Allegheny County Family Division’s pro se Motions program and the Wills for Heroes program.
Ms. Vollen also serves on the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Partner’s Board, and is the chair of their annual fundraiser, Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh.
