Horrible Attorney. DO NOT USE!!

Find someone else! She is horrible with communication and fighting for you. During the divorce process, she was more concerned with taking notes than doing the best for her client. We had a third-party financial person with our divorce. Sometimes it felt like five against one. Hardly four against tw...o. But definitely not two versus two and an impartial third-party. before the divorce was final, she mentioned she had something for me to sign which I was going to take about five minutes. After going to her office and her fumbling through her phone for over 45 minutes, my address was changed. That’s all it was. My address. After my divorce was approved by the judge, I was notified by my ex-wife that we were officially divorced. Six days later, SIX, I called my attorney to find out what the deal was. She said she “just received the paperwork.” So I called her out on it and asked what day she received the email from the other attorney. It was the prior week. But no correspondence to me saying hey, we need to talk about something and finish up signing some paperwork, or hey, you’re divorced. No phone call. No text. No email. At the end of this same conversation, she said that she would mail me a hardcopy of the divorce. Decree for my files. It is now been three weeks. I have yet to get my divorce decree in the mail. Do yourself a favor, get someone else. Someone who will fight for you and be on your side and has the decency to communicate with you. It’s your life! It’s your divorce!

Awful

Julie wrote up separation paperwork incorrectly by using the incorrect dates. This is causing agreed upon spousal support to end a year sooner than it should have. When error brought to her attention she refused to correct her error. Her response was to “sue” me. Tells you what kind of attorney ...she is that she refuses to be held accountable for her error. She is obviously not working in your best interest but her own!

Great Collab Lawyer

Julie was a fantastic advocate for me and my children during the collaborative law process. She was flexible with her schedule to work around times when i needed consultation and explained all aspects of collaborative as we went through the process and i had questions. I truly felt like I had a partn...er to help me navigate this difficult part of my life. For anyone who thinks Collaborative could be a route for them, I would highly recommend you work with Julie.

Think twice

My case involved possible financial abuse and a false order of protection filed by my husband. I wanted to keep my children out of the fray, but wasn't convinced that my husband would be honest in Collaborative Law proceedings. Ms. Mersereau recommended that I leave my house given the tension between... my husband and I based on his false order of protection. However, Ms. Mersereau neglected to negotiate any legal agreement with my husband and his attorney prior to having me leave my house which essentially awarded the house to my husband along with primary custody of my children. A HUGE MISTAKE which I still cannot get out from under thanks to the lack of foresight from Ms. Mersereau. I absolutely would not recommend her to ANYONE. This one basic mistake has cost me dearly.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
