Be Careful!

We went to Mr Laforte to represent us in a real estate matter. At first he was willing to assist in a dispute with the tenants as a courtesy. There was no mention of any fees for just writing a simple letter. We were referred to him because he is on retainer with a municipality where we are employed.... He is compensated up front to represent the employees without additional fees. After he sent the short letters to the tenants as discussed the information sent to them was inaccurate. Immediately afterwards Mr Laforte forwarded invoices to us with inflated amounts due for services. There was no previous discussion mentioning that any fees would be expected. If there were proceedings through the court system, then we should expect to be billed. The landlord and tenant issue was resolved though a phone conversation. Mr Laforte had no involvement with the discussion as it was just a simple misunderstanding.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
