Guardians sought to terminate the parental rights of minor child's birth parents on grounds of abandonment. After hearings, Court terminated the parental rights and granted adoption petition.
OUTCOME: Adoption granted.
Stepfather petitioned to adopt his stepdaughter in 2013. The Court granted the termination of biological father's rights (thus ending child support) but did not grant the adoption. For the next 2-1/2 y ... ears the stepfather and mother attempted to satisfy the Court's requests for additional information. In 2016 the Court dismissed the petition. Attorney Hanisco filed an appearance and motion to reconsider, which resulted in the case being reopened. Ultimately, in October 2016 the Court granted the adoption.
