Leslie Prechtl Guy is a partner at Hinman, Howard and Kattell and a member of the firm’s Appellate, Litigation, and Labor and Employment practice groups. Ms. Guy concentrates her practice in New York federal and state courts. She has represented numerous employers in discrimination and harassment lawsuits and is often able to obtain summary judgment victories for her clients. She also represents physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice actions and before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC).
Ms. Guy was the lead counsel for Rowe v. Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., which established that New York funeral directors qualify as exempt professionals under New York law and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). She has handled numerous complex lawsuits. Ms. Guy is known for her ability to work with other attorneys and is regularly called on to serve as local counsel in the Northern District of New York for other law firms.
Ms. Guy also counsels clients in all aspects of employment law. She has provided both in-person and webinar training for clients on sexual harassment, discrimination, and best practices when faced with litigation and internal employee investigations. She has also represented highly compensated executives with regard to their contract negotiations.
Ms. Guy has lectured on litigation and labor and employment topics to Chambers of Commerce and the local bar association. She is also a contributor to the HH&K newsletter.
In addition to her busy practice, Ms. Guy serves on the Cidermill Playhouse Board of Directors, where she previously served as Vice-President. She is a member of the Community Foundation grant awards committee. She also serves as a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Ms. Guy’s outstanding record of community service was recognized by the Broome County Bar Association in 2012 when she was presented with the Community Service Award. Ms. Guy received an "AV" (Preeminent) peer review rating in both legal ability and ethical standards through Martindale-Hubbell.
