I have no words .....

In 1997 I hired Mr. Berg to represent me in a Racial Discrimination. case against Cornell University. His advice and behavior was at best unprofessional and at worse unethical. I rarely heard from him and when I did it was always at the last moment, when there was a critical deadline. The frustra...ting and infuriating conclusion of my association with Mr. Berg occurred when I called him to ask about the status of my case -- because I had not heard from him for months. He casually told me that the case had been dismissed. He never bothered to inform me so I/we could appeal -- he simply told me that it was over! I planned to sue Mr. Berg for malpractice but this all occurred weeks after the 9/11 tragedy and I found myself lying in Manhattan with two small children and I could not afford, (financially or emotionally) to pursue Mr. Berg-- so I moved on. I know that it has been a long time. Those ,"small children" are now 23 and 28. I have indeed moved on. However, I am very grateful for the opportunity to tell my story here. Prospective clients should know about me, my case, and what Mr. Berg did.

Look for a better layer

I never thought that layer could be this bad! He did not come to the meeting with labor department on a scheduled date. Never answered a phone call after that. Did not provide us with the copies of the documents that he sent out (even after requesting it from him three times). He purposefully dragged... time during first consultation, which took 1,5 hours instead of 30 minutes. During interview we thought that he might have some kind of disability which prevented him from talking freely. It took him 10-15 seconds to reply to your question. Sometimes I wasn't sure if he actually heard me, and when I was ready to repeat the question, he would suddenly reply. All this time he was usually quietly staring right in your eye which makes you feel very uncomfortable. It was very weird and a bit creepy in a way. He also spent a good 20 minutes over the time of consultation talking about my or his personal life, which was unrelated to the case. When I talked with him on the phone (only once, before the meeting to which he did not come) he would talk normally and freely. He was recommended to us by a friend, but it was a huge mistake hiring him. Now we are looking for a new layer and I highly recommend you do the same.

Look Elsewhere

He did not inform myself of all our rights.(We found this out after consulting with another attorney, and after it was too late.. we missed our timeframe to file a claim in a particular court) He did not file a claim with the court, when he said he did. We called the court to inquire and they sai...d no claims have been filed on our behalf. (Still no claim filed) He avoided phone calls, did not respond to emails and had a list of excuses for each thing. Never copied me on any correspondence even though he states he sent documents. (probably because none was sent out).
