Bruce Michael Poushter

Bruce Poushter is a Partner and Chairman of both the Business/Corporate and Commercial Real Estate departments. His experience is diverse and all-inclusive, representing an array of legal matters, from commercial and residential real estate, federal and state income taxation, business formation and family business succession to limited liability companies, corporations, mergers and acquisitions, and private placement syndications. His tax expertise includes structuring Historic Tax Credit and Low Income Tax Credit projects. He acts as a qualified intermediary for Section 1031 Like-Kind Exchanges for real estate, automobile dealership franchises and radio stations. He also represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

Mr. Poushter serves clients in residential and commercial real estate—buyers, sellers, developers and lenders; and has been involved in high-profile development projects including several in Armory Square (the Labor Temple Building, the Hogan Block Building and Armory Center) as well as the Merchants Commons. He has formed condominiums, cooperatives and homeowners associations.

Mr. Poushter is Chair of the Trusts and Estates and Elder Law Departments. The Trusts and Estates Department provides legal services related to estate and transfer tax planning, ranging from preparing basic wills, powers of attorney, advance health-care directives, and living trusts to the preparation of complex, irrevocable trusts. The Department also assists executors and trustees with the administration of trusts and decedent's estates. The Elder Law Department provides legal services related to planning for long-term disability, Medicaid, and the protection of assets.

A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Poushter is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Poushter is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania (Bachelor of Science), Syracuse University College of Law, New York University (LL.M. Federal Taxation) and Syracuse University School of Management (M.S. Accounting).

Mr. Poushter is an Adjunct Professor at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, where he teaches Emerging Enterprise Law. He is a member of the board of directors for McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Site. He is also an avid skier and sailor and a past commodore of the Willow Bank Yacht Club in Cazenovia.
