Anas is a general business attorney who advises and represents clients on a wide array of business matters, including business formation, commercial transactions, corporate housekeeping, business operations, mergers and acquisitions, contracts and contract negotiations, employment agreements, licensing matters, general business compliance matters, stock purchase agreements, operating agreements and business succession issues. As the son of small business owners, he has a particular passion for and insight to the particular concerns and needs of entrepreneurs, start-ups, closely-held and family-owned businesses, and small private professional services practices. Anas represents a number of closely-held and family-owned businesses in the retail, health care, food service and web-based services sectors.
As an additional asset to his general business practice, Anas is a management side Labor and Employment attorney. As a Labor and Employment attorney, he has provided counsel to private and public sector employers on a wide variety of matters, including wage and hour issues, employment discrimination, workplace harassment, reasonable accommodations for employee disabilities, wrongful discharge, labor arbitration, unfair labor practice charges and school law. Anas has gained considerable experience in drafting and advising clients on Older Workers’ Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) compliant releases in single termination, reduction in force (RIF) and other group termination settings. He is also experienced drafting employment and independent contractor agreements for employers, including the structuring of non-compete, non-solicitation, non-disclosure, non-disparagement and other employment-related provisions.
Anas’ immigration practice focuses on the representation of employers and individuals in the preparation, filing and adjudication of employment-based petitions for temporary (nonimmigrant) workers (including H-1B, L-1A, L-1B, E-1, E-2 and E-3 petitions), as well as Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and STEM extension applications. He is experienced in obtaining approval of both Mexican and Canadian TN (NAFTA) applications (including in the Scientific Technicians/Technologists, Teacher, Engineer and Industrial Designers NAFTA categories). Anas has assisted clients in obtaining J-1 Intern and Trainee visas for foreign nationals. He also counsels individuals and multi-national businesses on nonimmigrant international travel issues, including obtaining B-1/B-2 visas and entry. Furthermore, Anas has advised clients with respect to the processing of nonimmigrant visas at a broad array of U.S. consular posts, including U.S. Embassies and Consulates located in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, Malaysia, China and Australia.
Anas’ immigration practice includes worksite immigration related matters, such as Labor Condition Applications (LCAs), public access files and employee work authorization. He has experience in advising on E-Verify and I-9 compliance, where he has assisted in counseling clients on federal contractor FAR E-Verify obligations, proper E-Verify and Form I-9 procedures, I-9 voluntary self-audits and immigration considerations in mergers and acquisitions Anas has also represented employers issued a Notice of Intent to Fine (NIF) by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for I-9 employment verification violations.
In addition to his employment and business based immigration practice, Anas assists individuals with family-based immigration matters, as well as the preparation and adjudication of other immigration related applications, including Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and N-400 naturalization applications. Furthermore, Anas has successfully represented clients before the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Fines, Penalties and Forfeitures Office (FP&F) in obtaining the return of seized U.S. currency.
Anas has also worked as a fellow for the Onondaga Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project and externed for the Honorable Federal Magistrate for the Northern District of New York Judge George H. Lowe. He is conversant in Arabic.
