Not happy

At the recommendation of a few friends, I hired Mr. Pomeroy to represent me recently during my divorce. I heard from others that he was a hard-nosed go-getter and a good negotiator. I was very emotionally distraught during the process and virtually broke after my ex wife put me years in debt and to...ok a lot of my savings. Mr. Pomeroy charged me for everything you could think of and never took into consideration that I may not be emotionally equipped to argue for what I deserved. He said to "email him anytime with questions" and then charged $175 an hour for answering them. My ex and I wound up having a settlement conference over custody and support, and during the conference Mr. Pomeroy gave away a lot of my visitation time with my kids, my tax benefits, my right to the equity in the marital residence, and even took the opportunity to say that my purchase of a motorcycle was selfish and impractical...in front of my soon to be ex and her lawyer! I wound up getting the minimum visitation time with my children and only $40 a month knocked off my child support payments. Meanwhile my ex refinanced the house in her name and got nearly $20000 for it, which I never saw a penny of from his advice...she gets to claim both kids on her taxes even though I pay over $1600 in child support...various other things. I got to keep my credit card debt and my 12 year old truck. What a stupendous deal...for him! If you are getting divorced in the Cortland NY area, I would recommend you NOT retain any lawyer within Cortland County, especially Mr. Pomeroy. He basically did nothing for me...I could've argued my own case in court and saved the $4000 I paid for his services, which got me next to nothing.

Proceed with Caution

My experience with Bill Pomeroy during a potential home purchase in Cortland was extremely disappointing. After a failed home inspection, I decided to walk away from the deal before a final contract was ever signed and well before any closing date. Despite the transaction ending at such an early s...tage, I was billed $320 for what amounted to a few emails and phone calls (totaling one hour of work)—many of which he initiated himself. In residential real estate transactions, it is widely understood that attorneys are typically paid at closing. When a deal falls apart before contracts are finalized or a closing occurs, most attorneys either waive minor preliminary work or charge very minimally. Receiving a several-hundred-dollar invoice for such limited interaction felt completely out of step with standard practice. What made the situation worse was the sense that routine matters were being unnecessarily drawn out. A simple CZO transfer discussion—something that should have been straightforward—became a prolonged exchange that only seemed to generate more billable communication. The overall experience left me with the impression that the focus was less on helping a client navigate a simple situation and more on maximizing billable interactions. Communication also felt curt and dismissive rather than client-focused. After reading other reviews here, it appears my experience may not be unique. I would strongly encourage anyone considering working with this attorney to clarify billing practices upfront and proceed with caution.

Money Hungry. Ruins Children's Lives

He is the absolute worst family attorney ever!! My son and we as loving grandparents have not seen our children and grandchildren in almost 2 years, yet he is still fighting for child support payments, trying to ruin my son's new LLC business and is a money grubbing fool. If you care nothing abou...t your children and want to waste thousands, go with him Otherwise bye, bye!!
