CCKR v. Venus, Serena and Richard Williams
Dec 21, 2007OUTCOME: Judgment in favor of the Williams Family
Mr Morris represented Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams in a 6 week jury trial. CCKR had claimed Richard Williams represented himself as his daughters' manager when he allegedly sig ... ned an agreement committing them to a Battle of the Sexes Tennis Match against John and Patrick McEnroe. The event never took place and CCKR said the Williams sisters reneged on their promise. Venus and Serena proved that their father had no authority to bind his daughters to any agreement especially since the young ladies were represented by the world-wide sports agency IMG. The Associated Press Reported after the jury returned a verdict in favor of the Williams family, that "The bottom line is there was no damages. They didn't prove any damages. They didn't sustain any damages," Richard Williams' lawyer Jan Michael Morris told reporters. "6-0, 6-0, 6-0, that's all we cared about, the big zero."
