I contacted Mr. Filiberto on behalf of my mother who had received a referral from her retiree legal plan services. Mr. Filiberto outreached to me within minutes of my inquiry. He was personable, professional, knowledgeable and patient with my questions. He was unable to accept my case because he does not handle divorce matters, but his advice on my mother's options helped us to better understand her legal position and allowed me to explain options for next steps. I was very appreciative of his patience and the time he took to respond to my inquiry. I will certainly keep him in mind for other legal matters.
Richard contacted me shortly after I posted my traffic case on Nolo. After hearing the details of my case, he explained that I may not need to hire a lawyer although he could simply get my money. He was patient and explained what are my options over the phone. I went to court and managed to lower the ticket. Although I didn't end up hiring him and went to the court myself (this was what he recommended), his professional behavior and patience in hearing my case and explaining the options were very helpful. Thanks Richard!
A child abuse lawyer understands issues related to child abuse and neglect, and child physical or emotional abuse claims can arise in a variety of contexts and motives. Sometimes the young victim tells a relative, who then files a lawsuit; at other times, a government agency such as Child Protective Services may press charges.
An attorney can file restraining orders and make changes to your child custody agreement in order to protect you and your family. Conversely, if you have been accused of physically or mentally threatening someone close to you we can help.
Mr. Filiberto is a knowledgeable and creative lawyer with a vast array of experience both in and out of court.
He has established an office in Carmel, New York, where he practices Family Law, Criminal Law, Personal Injury Law, Trusts and Estates Law, and general civil litigation.
Having served as the Principal Law Clerk for two Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, he is familiar with matrimonial and domestic relations matters, serving the Court in a matrimonial part, general civil matters in a civil part and has served with the Court in a dedicated commercial division part. Subsequent to his service with the Court in trial parts, Mr. Filiberto joined an ancillary agency of the Court which represented people subject to guardianship proceedings as Court Evaluator as well as defense counsel for people alleged to be incapacitated. In addition, he represented the mentally ill both in and out of the hospital, protecting the rights of individuals subject to inpatient commitment as well as outpatient control. Prior to his joining the Court, Mr. Filiberto maintained a private practice serving client in divorce proceedings, Family Court matters, custody matters, Child Support matters, Landlord - Tenant matters, Estate matters and varied general civil litigation. Retired from his service to the Court and it's ancillary agency, Mr. Filiberto established a private practice to continue to serve people in need of protection.

Reliable and helpful
He helped me stay calm in a stressful state and made the outcome of my situation much better then it would have been without him by my side.

Professional & Helpful
Richard took the time to review and research my situation. I had gotten a ticket for being on my cell phone and feared the points on the license would cause my insurance to go up. He was early and professional when meeting me for the court date, and had many defenses prepared to get me the best possible outcome. Richard was able to get my ticket completely dismissed! Without him there to talk to the town prosecutor I probably would have had to pay a fine and could have gotten points on my license. I would use him again, but hopefully won't have to and have already recommended him to friends and family!
