Trusted My Attorney, Lost My Family Structure

I was represented by this attorney as court-appointed counsel in a Family Court matter. Prior to trial, I expressed my desire to proceed to trial rather than stipulate. I was advised to agree to the proposed order and not proceed to trial based on the assurance that the order would be temporary and e...xpire after six months. I later learned that the order was permanent, with long-term consequences that fundamentally altered my family life. I would not have agreed or waived trial had I understood that at the time. The order also permanently prohibited my fiancée and her daughter from having any contact with my child. This outcome and its permanence was never explained to me before I agreed. Additionally, the order included language preventing me from contacting law enforcement to enforce visitation, leaving me without any practical means of addressing access issues. I trusted my attorney to fully explain the nature and consequences of what I was consenting to. In my experience, that did not happen, and the impact has been profound and lasting.

Disappointment

I was appointed this attorney for a restraining order against my ex. No communication from her, dropped the ball over and over, adjourned my court date and told me 30 minutes before I was scheduled to be in court. Now, as a result of her not letting me know when to appear in court, I missed my appear...ance, the order was dropped and she hasn’t returned any messages or calls about refilling. Represent yourself. This attorney should consider another line of work or pairing down her caseload. Shes putting people in harms way with her negligence.

While we are always sorry to hear when someone is unhappy with how their case went, it is also important they recall accurately. Your first appearance was adjourned, and a new date was provided that you could not appear at, so that was adjourned at your request. A notice to appear was sent and we attempted to contact you to inform you of your next date, that you did not appear at (nor did the other side) so that matter was, as you stated dismissed. You were immediately informed by our office you could refile. As you accurately stated in your post, we were not retained by you but assigned by the county so unfortunately once the case ends, so does our assignment. We wish you the best of luck in the future.

Poor performance.

Was my attorney in custody issue. Dropped the ball completely. Not well organized. Fired from the firm in beacon she worked for during my legal case.

Very knowledgeable and thorough

Rachel handled my post judgment matter and successfully argued my case resulting in an order in my favor that included the other party paying for my attorney's fees. I found her to be incredibly knowledgeable and she was always available when I had any questions. She took the time to explain the proc...ess so I knew what to expect throughout the entire case. Would highly recommend her.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
