Thomas Ritchie Davis

Thomas R. Davis is the firm’s managing partner and heads the firm’s personal injury, matrimonial litigation and criminal defense departments.

Tom has tried numerous personal injury cases and continues to represent severely injured individuals throughout the region. Since law school when he was named top in his class in the areas of torts (personal injury) and the rules of evidence, as well as criminal law, Tom has brought his keen judgment and knowledge to complex cases.

Tom has extensive experience handling serious personal injury matters. Of late, he was successful in obtaining a judgment against a hospital for injuring a patient – by motion practice – avoiding a trial, an extremely rare outcome in New York. He has also handled wrongful death cases, obtaining favorable settlements of those who have lost loved ones. He has also recently thwarted attempts by a defendant to obtain his client’s private social media information – a favorite tactic of insurance companies.

In the matrimonial law area, Tom has emphasized involvement in large asset matters of great complexity. He has litigated the legal status of the 9/11 victim’s fund as it pertains to marital property and has been involved in precedent setting cases involving complex pension issues. He has represented numerous members of the real-estate and construction industries in matrimonial cases and is particularly familiar with the proper way to deal with such assets and income in the divorce context.

 In the criminal law area, Tom has represented defendants throughout the Hudson Valley and in federal court. He has been praised by a United States District Court Judge for the work he did in the sentencing of a white collar crime case and has been an instructor on bail issues for other attorneys. Mr. Davis has represented defendants in numerous white collar crime cases, including multi-million dollar fraud matters.

Tom has also been involved in providing education to members of the bar and paralegals. He is a former instructor for two different paralegal training programs. He has, at the invitation of a county court judge, instructed attorneys on the aspect of bail. He was recently an instructor for the National Business institute.

Tom is also a trustee of the Down Syndrome Association of the Hudson Valley and is on the Board of Directors for Abilities First Hudson Valley.
