Disabled Veteran Wins Social Security Benefits After Initial Denials
Apr 01, 2025OUTCOME: Full Favorable Decision
A veteran who developed severe neuropathy after chemical exposure during his military service has been awarded Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits through Attorney Amanda Bonnesen's re ... presentation. When our client could no longer work due to his debilitating nerve damage, he turned to Berger and Green for help with his disability claim. The Social Security Administration (SSA) had denied his application and reconsideration, determining he could still perform "light work." At the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing, Amanda successfully argued that his severe neuropathy actually limited him to sedentary work at most. Sedentary work refers to jobs that involve sitting most of the time—typically up to 6 hours in an 8-hour workday—with only occasional walking or standing, and lifting no more than 10 pounds. Amanda demonstrated that even this minimal level of physical activity was beyond our client's capabilities due to his condition. The ALJ agreed, and our client was awarded the SSDI benefits he deserved. An initial denial doesn't have to be the final answer. Amanda Bonnesen has the experience to challenge incorrect SSA decisions and fight for the benefits her clients have earned.
