From the jaws of deportation to US Citizenship, all thanks due to Michael Gilbert of Zwaik, Gilbert and Associates. My journey has been long and difficult with many bleak moments in between. I came to the US in the 90s as a young teenager and made my share of mistakes while navigating through life in... US. When I met my US born wife, I already had two arrests on my record, making the task of obtaining a green card impossible. With the help of Mr. Gilbert, we made a plan and applied for my green card. I was nervous on the day of the interview and of course my application was rejected on the basis of my arrest record. Mr. Gilbert advised me to make a stronger connection with the community, volunteer, get involve with various charities to show that I have changed as a person. We reapplied and were once again denied and this time I was placed in removable proceedings to be deported back to Pakistan. Many sleepless nights were spent accepting the fact that it was a great possibility that I’ll be deported. Another meeting took place at Mr. Gilbert’s office and a new plan was created. Mr. Gilbert worked hard to create a strong case on behalf of me to present in front of the judge who was presiding over the removal proceedings. He argued on my behalf like a true champion, someone who deeply cared for his client and he made sure I was not going to be deported on his watch. The judge agreed with Mr. Gilbert and granted me the green card. The long hard battle fought had been won, however the journey was not complete. With the immigration policies rapidly changing it was time for me to apply for US Citizenship. Once again Mr. Gilbert was there to guide me. With all the hard work and efforts that were put in my file, this time things seemed a little easier, however in the back of my mind I was ready for another difficult interview. On the day of my interview, Mr. Gilbert went with me, calmed my nerves and once again spoke on my behalf to the agent interviewing me, Highlighting my strong points and guiding the interview process into a favorable one. A month and a half later I received my Oath letter and this past Tuesday the 23rd of January I became a US Citizen. I had dealt with other Immigration attorneys who did nothing for me; Mr. Gilbert was different. He was attentive, cared about me and was always available to answer my questions and concerns. As of October 22nd of 2016, I am in possession of my new Green Card without any restrictions and after 14 long years I can travel again. Moreover, pretty soon I will be United States Citizen - finally! Almost full 3 years Mr. Gilbert never left my side, explaining everything regarding the process into details, [and sometimes I would not understand all the legal terms, which he would than in a blink of an eye say to me in plain English - thank you so much!] explaining to me step by step what will happen in the future with the case, and what are my options. He tirelessly wrote letters to immigration judge urging to see my case sooner, he even wrote synopsis of my case so the officers in immigration could easier understand what happened with my case through the years, he often went by himself in Holtsville to ask for the status of my case. At no point in this 3 years, was a moment that he was not available if I needed to ask something, or that my email was not answered. 3 years is a very long time, one can say plenty of time for things to go wrong, and my case was extremely complicated, but only the most outstanding professionalism and genuine care for my case was presented to me.
