Matthew Thomas McDonough

Matthew Thomas McDonough is the owner of McDonough PLLC. Based in Babylon, New York, he performs a variety of legal services for clients in Suffolk and Nassau counties and throughout other parts of the greater New York City metropolitan area. Admitted to practice in New York since 2019, Mr. McDonough is also admitted to practice in the District of Columbia as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.

Mr. McDonough attended New York University as an undergraduate, majoring in economics and receiving a Bachelor of Arts. He then took a position with the Babylon Industrial Development Agency, rising to become its chief executive officer. While he was there, Mr. McDonough also enrolled at the City University of New York School of Law, and he ultimately was awarded his Juris Doctor. After he graduated, he served a clerkship with the Supreme Court of the State of New York before establishing his private practice in June 2020.

Mr. McDonough provides advice and counsel to his business clients on many types of matters. For those companies that are experiencing financial difficulties, he explains the differences between a Chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy and a Chapter 11 restructuring while also exploring other types of debt relief. Mr. McDonough has also handled sophisticated transactions such as financings, mergers, and dissolutions, and he has appeared in court and at the negotiating table for clients who are involved in business disputes. His tax practice involves representing people and businesses facing audits as well as those who are in need of advice when structuring transactions or their estate plans.
