Censured issued in NY, 2015
updated on 08/30/2017When an attorney is censured it means he or she did something wrong but may still practice law. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
“A Censure is where a lawyer is told "don't do that." In this censure, a lawyer, Lauren Curren lied about her background (she is a defense lawyer, but denied same) and got on Mr. Panetta's Jury. The jury found against the very credible Plaintiff (a defense verdict was the result) Mr. Panetta sent Ms. Curren an email scolding her and telling her he knew she lied. The Appellate Division said: jurors --regardless of whether they are attorneys or not, should not be scolded. That's it.”
